WVCI-LP Receives First Batch of Equipment!

Thanks to a donation from KG Freight LLC, owned by Mike Hartford of Vienna, coupled with donations already received from the George B. Todd Fund, Hebron Savings Bank, and several individuals, the Community Informatics Institute was able to purchase the transmitter, antenna, and cabling for the Vienna radio station, WVCI-LP 92.9FM. This will allow volunteer Station Manager Kathryn Masten and volunteer Technical Operator Randy Cain of Vienna to start learning the free open source Rivendell automated scheduling software. Running the station in “unattended” mode, with no need for a studio or paid staff, will help us keep station operating costs low. Plus, it means people can record their own content for possible broadcast later, so that many local voices can hit the airwaves when we go live! We still need to raise $4000 for the required emergency alert system and mounting hardware, but we’re moving forward!
