Work is progressing on WVCI-LP 92.9 FM Vienna. On August 16, 2026, volunteer technical operator Randy Cain was able to transmit a test signal from our “radio station in-a-box” successfully on the very first try – with just 9 Watts into a dummy load. Listen below for the original music that made it briefly over the air waves. For techie folks, we’re using a BW TX300 Transmitter and Rivendell audio software running in a Linux virtual machine living on Proxmox. We still need $2000 for the final piece of equipment, the Emergency Alert System (EAS) – the system that sends those annoying buzzes over the air when there’s an emergency. The EAS is a required component for low-power FM stations like ours that will only reach a 3.5-mile radius around Vienna on 92.9 FM. But it can be a life saver.
